Winterising the boat and engines against the cold winter weather

need to winterise the engines and a few other bits on the boat in order to protect it against frost damage during the worst excesses of the winter.

This is one of those jobs that I don’t really like doing. Not that it’s difficult or anything like that, the reason I don’t like it is because it marks the end of another boating season.

So far this winter has been very cold, we don’t normally get snow before Christmas but this year we did and we got quite a lot of it here in the midlands too. So that was it, time had come to winterise the engines as well as the domestic water supply.

None of it is difficult but it is a very important job. Failing to winterise the engines could result in a cracked block while the pipes in the domestic water supply could freeze up and burst making for avoidable repairs in the spring.
