Shannon cruisers are not really meant to go to sea, but in this episode we take on the wild Atlantic ocean and cruise along the Kerry and Cork coastline. The scenery is just out of this world, well not literally, but that should be obvious!
We get escorted by dolphins as we approach the Blasket islands and near Dingle. Malachy who has being crewing thus far had to return home so it’s left to myself and my Dad to carry on.
I’ve used Google maps to help to give you a good idea of where we are and where we are heading to. When we reach Cork we are joined by my brother Aidan and from here we take on the task of crossing the Celtic sea to Newlyn in Cornwall.
This leg of the journey takes twenty four hours and is not without incident. Bad weather a repairs to the boat keep us in Newlyn for several weeks but eventually we managed to get underway again. We headed round the headland called The Lizard and into Falmouth.
With great weather and the sun on our backs we head up along the southern English coast, which is just stunning. If we weren’t on a mission it would have been great to have spent more time in the UK.
After stopovers in Dartmouth and Weymouth we get ready to cross the channel.
