Magic on Lough Ree.
We get all four sessions in one day in this boat trip on Lough Ree. We visit the fine harbour at Portrunney and look at the facilities there and talk about what is planned for the future.
As dark clouds loom above we head away from Portrunney and head south down the lake to the magical mooring in Rindoon Bay.
Also often referred to as safe-harbour this small island swing mooring jetty is a suntrap out of the wind. Rindoon was an ancient town out on a peninsula that juts out into the lake.
Protected on three sides by the lake the town wall that protected the forth side is still visible and it makes for a great walk. Th jetty that we moor at is not connected to the shore so you would need to row ashore if you have a dingy with you. Until recently there was no jetty hear at all and you had to anchor in the bay. But now Waterways Ireland have installed Lough Ree’s newest mooring and it’s a great addition to the lake. I think I’d prefer if they don’t hook it up to the shore, I just like the solitude that it provides at the moment.
