Episode #6 Battlebridge to Carrick on Shannon

A cruise from Battlebridge to the town of Carrick on Shannon.

In this episode we cruise from Battlebridge on the north of the river Shannon and travel south to the town of Carrick on Shannon. In Carrick on Shannon we take a walk about the town in lovely sunshine and visit some of the sights including the tiny little church of Costello memorial chapel. At just sixteen feet by twelve feet this is the second smallest church in the world. If you want to see a smaller one you will have to travel to the holy land where I’m told you can find one.

We also take a look at some old pubs and a few of the sights in Carrick on Shannon, although there is so much to see here that we really cannot do Carrick justice. What is more difficult to convey even in video is the wonderful atmosphere of the town. There is a real holiday feeling in the air that seems to be present no matter what time of year you visit Carrick on shannon.

The public moorings in Carrick are second to none, with plenty floating pontoons as well as the older stone jetties. Electricity is available on the floating jetties and there is a service block with toilets, showers and laundry facilities. Carrick on Shannon also has a pump out station which like the service block is operated by way of a waterways smart card. These are available to buy from shops all along the waterway.

Carrick on Shannon is also home to two of the largest hire boat companies on the river. Namely Carrick Craft and Emerald Star Line (Le Boat). There are literally dozens of other boat hire companies on the river some big and some smaller. If you’re thinking of hiring on the river do a bit of google searching before you commit, there are bargains to got if you look hard enough.
