This is Digoin in the dark. It’s a good spot to stay with all the facilities you might need. That’s our boat “Driftwood” nearest the camera.
We took a very early morning walk around the town (at 4:30am, it’s a beautiful time for a walk!) and found this stork had nested in top of the church in the Main square overlooking the Town Hall and the Mayor’s Office.
I think that this pair probably had the best address in the town! I love the fact that if you can’t sleep you can just get up at silly O’Clock in the morning and go for a walk like that. See on the boat you can just go back to bed, no alarm clocks !
There is a boat hire base in Digoin and it would be a good place to start off a boating holiday from. The wonderful aqueduct over the Loire Valley is just at one end of the town and there is a supermarket near the hire base too. Most importantly is that Digoin has a railway station so getting to and from an airport or ferry port is not a problem.
I returned to Digoin a few months after this visit but by car this time not by boat. I had two buddies with me and we set up a BBQ beside the aqueduct and sat down in lovely sunshine to enjoy the scenery. Pity we had the car because a drip of wine would have just capped it nicely!
